We are open to homeschoolers, public schoolers, private schoolers, etc. No matter how you choose to educate your child, they are welcome here.
Our classes are divided into age/grade groupings that are listed in each classes information. These are chosen based on the instruction, complexity, and attention span needed for the subject matter being taught. But more than that, the social dynamic of a class flows better with similar age kids than with too wide of an age span.
We ask that you respect our decisions on this. It comes from experience. That being said, if you have a special circumstance please email us to discuss. We are more likely to accept a child older than the age range than one younger.
No, our classes are paid and intended for kids to dropped off. There is no parent volunteer requirement. We do welcome and encourage home schooled youth in our classes.
Currently Dream Maker's youth classes are taught by it's owner, Sara Smith. Sara is an experienced arts and crafts educator in the private sector, with a background in web and product design, entrepreneurship, and IT. She holds a BS degree in information technology, and an MS degree in human computer interaction (an interdisciplinary program including design, tech, & psychology). Sara is assisted by Dream Maker's part-time staff who are friendly and crafty!
No. Dream Maker Creative is a secular creative community and does not promote any religion or spiritual path. We are open to all faiths and when religion is discussed (it is, because much of art history has cultural and religious components), it is in a general way that does not promote or condemn beliefs.
Please reach out to us if your child has a special need so that we can discuss potential fit. We will do our best to work with you, but keep in mind that we are a small program with limited staff and resources. Our studio is fully accessible for wheelchairs and those with limited mobility.
If your child normally has an aide assigned to them in the school setting, they will probably need one here too.
We are following state/county guidelines which may be altered as circumstances require. At the time of posting (8/18/2022), vaccination and masks are not required for attendance to classes. If you have a positive Covid test, you need to stay home for 5 days, then mask up when returning to class for days 6-10. Please continue to stay home if you have any symptoms of illness (including standard colds and flu), and practice handwashing.
We're sorry, but we are unable to offer refunds or make-up days for missed classes. In some cases, we might be able to send handouts and/or supplies home for content missed, but this depends on the class and the projects being worked on the given week of absence.
Our classes are held with a minimum of 6 participants, and a maximum of 12.
Once we reach 8 paid participants, we will open up one scholarship spot. A second scholarship spot will open for the 12th class spot. Generally a scholarship allows a child to attend at a substantially reduced price, typically around $25. The qualification process is handled by our registration partner, Activity Hero. If you'd like to be notified when a scholarship spot opens, please email us to be added to the wait list.
We wish we could do more, however Dream Maker Creative is a small family business. We are not a non-profit (though our revenue is low) and we do not qualify for the tax breaks, grants, donations, and volunteers that non-profit programs do.
