Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique known for its deep blue patterns created with indigo. In this hands-on class, you’ll explore various folding, binding, and clamping methods to produce intricate designs on fabric, along with essential fabric preparation techniques.
Class will cover how to set up and use a synthetic indigo dye vat, as well as how to achieve similar results with fiber-reactive dyes. Your class fee includes all materials, including three large tea towels for practice. You may also bring one small cotton item, such as a shirt or pillowcase, or a few smaller pieces like cloth napkins or diapers.
This class is for ages 12 to adult, but minors must attend with an adult. We will have some down time in the middle of this class while waiting for our dyeables, so bring a bag lunch and optionally a project to work on (such as as crochet).
